crunch of gravel footsteps in the dead of night only light in the room computer's monitor blinds on the window are bent in a couple of places he can see me through the bent blinds he can see me I cannot see him a fearful man I am not I've stood up to them all still . . . I'm not as young as I once was and what I can't see in the dark has always bothered me crunch, crunch he's creeping slowly now what does he want? no, I don't want to know the answer the door is locked isn't it? of course it is I always lock up before dark if I live through this night I'm buying a gun should have already purchased one better him than me I shut off the computer now he can't see me either I feel, or sense footsteps on the porch soft sounds as pressure is placed on the floor if I listen hard enough I can almost hear the man breathing what does he want? this is not a social visit no whoever is beyond the walls of this house is up to no good I hear him trying the doorknob I must get up there are large knives in the kitchen I need to be holding one of them I've never been so afraid I'm powerless to move the only thing I can use as a weapon is in my shirt pocket ball point pen if this is a dream I wish I would wake up if this is insanity I . . . ©April 20, 2013 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ I stayed up all night to see where the sun went. Oh my, dear Jerry, you know something about suspense!! I was getting ready to shake in fear throughout your write. I have experienced similar moments, checking windows and doors ... uuuuhhhh ... Excellent write! As you have written about it I smile knowing you are ok! Margherita |

This one sure grabs you, Jer... and now we all NEED to know how it ended... who it was... etc. For me, it probably would have been somone serving me legal papers of some sort :/ ... Maybe you have better luck though. And though I have (mostly unintentionally) hurt many people with my pen, I cringe at the thought of having to defend myself in a physical altercation with it. 'Could feel the desperation in those lines. Well done, my friend. Michael |

Thanks Michael. In the next poem it would probably go something like this. I would have purchased that gun (already have one) and when I heard the doorknob being tried I would empty it into the door, and come to learn later my neighbor had see the man, called the sheriff's department and I had just shot and killed a sheriff's deputy. A real Thriller! I liked how it ended with the pen being the only weapon for defense. Very appropriate for a writer I thought. Enjoyed! |

Yeah you're right about the only weapon he had, it had to be, it had to be. Appreciate you honoring me with your presence, Bob. ~*~ I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. I can't put it down. ~*~ |

Yeah Alison, it is a horrifying situation when you think somebody is near by who wants to cause you trouble. Thank you for your input on my poem, it is appreciated. ~*~ PMS jokes aren't funny, period. ~*~ |
