It's 30 years later
and I see your eyes smile at me

we tiptoed the water's edge
but Autumn was rising, potent
with airchills,  we were flirting
with waves, then we had to surrender,
laughing like schoolgirls, slapped by
the seabreeze, we rushed back to
the sands again

it was right at that moment
that the man with the Yankees
cap, my husband, your daddy
was yelling 'say cheese' to us

but we didn't need prodding, as
the bond of our spirits brought
life to the camera's lens

the love of a mother
caressing her first born, who was
kissing the tummy, with the seed
of her sibling

the picture stays current, on your
brother's piano, mother and daughter
with my son in my belly

now 30 years later
you mirror that moment
with your own little toddler
your  firstborn, a shortstop
with the eyes of his mama

he smiles with a tenderness
through the eyes that looked
up at me, touching your tummy
that grows sweet with his sibling

and my heart grows with wings
again, with the joyous reflection
of the picture, familiar
of a promise, eternal.

I love you.........

Love Mommy

Thankful you were able to visualize as well as share with us this lovely mixture of the reminiscent with the here and now playing out in what seems to be very similar happy pregnancy moments.  Life in and of itself can be so inspirational.  Enjoyed!

This is the most beautiful poem and a lovely reflection of you as a poet, of the ebb and flow of life, of a mother and her daughter, and most of all the endless love that spans a lifetime and beyond.

Gosh Emma I am so moved by your poem.
Warm hugs to you sweet one.

I really enjoyed this poem, even being that it brought tears to my eyes! I have a daughter myself, so certainly can relate & felt as if I was "reading" her grow up throughtout her life within the few moments of reading that poem! Very well written! Much enjoyed EmmaRose! & much so ironically Emma Rose is my  God daughters name as well!
