Saturdays
That's our time
our private time

I tell myself
No more
and
Never again

But
I don't mean it
I'll come back
I always come back

I tell myself
You're not good for me
and
I need to give you up

So
I do
until I don't
Because I can't
anymore

I can never stay away
for long

Such a passionate affair
I can't even remember
When it began
like it's always been

I tell myself no more
And resolve to stay away
but
I know
After all these years
It'll do
no good

It's been so long
too long

So...

You
Me
This Saturday
The bakery
down the street

Just like old times

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every year I give up sweets for Lent, hoping I'll kick the habit.  But I'm only fooling myself.
So if anyone is looking for me on Saturday...  I'll be in the bakery meeting an old love of mine - chocolate.
Hello lover!!!
Awesome piece ... and as it stands leaves it to the imagination as to who/what is being talked about. And that's Not a bad thing.
The only thing I'd like better is if you incorporate "bakery / Chocolate" into the end of the poem instead of having to add a note for clarity.
Still, great write.
j,
Thank you.  You know, I really considered having it read:
"You
Me
This Saturday
the bakery down the street"
But I changed my mind at the last minute.  I think I'll change it back...
Much appreciated!!
I like it  ... No, I love it  ... Chocolate!
Yeah, it's my favorite comfort food as well and, yeah, you had me fooled right up until the end. Enjoyed!
