Am I on the outside, looking in?

There wouldn’t have been much for us to talk about, anyway;
For marriage and children and work,
with all their attendant issues and demands,
Imply a very different lifestyle I don’t have.
I’ll never be off disability and SSI
Even as I watch the rest of the world go by.
But I do retain a special love for you …
And a special place in my heart for you all,
Though I may never see or ever hear from you again.
Thank you for all your gifts, your time,
And all your tender loving care.
