. . . and they discovered the empty cheap California burgundy bottles lined up like soldiers marching off to soothe the soul of the days of wine and roses they stood there paying hushed accolades to the remembrance of one who walked this earth and had gone astray in polluted mystery will there be those who remember him as he finally found himself in the deep sleep the cold hand unconsciousness of death he looks as though he would speak one last verse, rhyme or nay the expression on his shallowness seems to want to impart great knowledge awareness and understanding which would/could/maybe change the world as we know it . . . but he's gone now ©February 6, 2013 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways . . . ~*~ |

A heart tugging poem Jerry but I love the title, even though it makes me think of Andy Williams and his beautiful voice...bless his soul. ~Victoria I was adored once too. |

I remember it as being Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick...The Days of Wine & Roses....which was my 1969 Prom Theme...a time when a small voice said, "let's make it memorable"...and it was. In so many ways. Thank you, JP, for the Memory. |

Yes, you are right Karilea, it was Jack Lemon. Thanks for setting me straight. Somebody's gotta do it. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways . . . ~*~ |

Made me feel a bit sad because most of us want to "change the world" when it's too late to do so. "Wine and Roses" - yes, I remember those days. Helen |

Yes, usually it is too late, Helen, and that makes us need to change ourselves. But then we've discussed that in the other poem, haven't we? ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways . . . ~*~ |

I perceive this as very poignant, dear Jerry. Every life has its deeper value, whether it is remembered or not I believe. The mere thought of wanting to change this world represents a guide for our choices and inspires others too, not all operate in the limelight. Great job. Margherita |

I thank you humbly, Margherita. You speak of the truth and do it quite eloquently. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways . . . ~*~ |
