What if the dream is a dream beyond dream,
What if the yearning that consumes the heart
Extends beyond the reach of sunlight's beam
To where no pen nor quill can mark the chart?
'Tis whence thine image casts its magic spell,
From the realm spun from webbing of thy grace --
I know thee - but shall never know thee well;
I bewail thine eyes shall not see my face
And thine ears shall not ever hear my voice --
Though I strain, from this course I cannot veer;
I have toiled on the cusp of Fate and choice
With naught but reason holding back a tear:
How to scale the worth of a dreamy sight
Set against the void of an empty night?

I always enjoy your poems CG...I especially liked that first line...a dream beyond a dream...makes me wonder what dream that could be

I relate. Big time, CG. This is an indepth piece of writing with an ending written perfectly with this line . . .
quote:
Set against the void of an empty night?

Such beautiful, touching expressions in your poem, dear CastleGuard. The yearning is indeed limitless, for something that is beyond our comprehension, something we have known and yet cannot define.

Dreams are quite often anticipation of reality.

Victoria - oh I will never tell...lol. But thank you for stopping by and reading...glad you enjoy the poems.

Jerry - thank you for 'relating' and the positive words - appreciate that.

Margherita - thank you for the kind words and commenting. And yes, they are. I suppose many could be considered the virtual bridge between the past and the future.
