Riding The Greyhound - Far, Far, Away (from Boyhood Tales) She smiled in her sleep. So did her eyes. Closed as they were they spoke with her lips, sharing what they saw. Grey dog hit a bump, she woke suddenly, her head bouncing against the window on which it lay, and those blue eyes caught mine, blue on blue, speaking soundlessly. And she smiled, looking at me. Grey dog was taking her away from, back there . . . yeah, back there, her thumb hooked to grey dog's rear. She wouldn't give the place a name, nor him, whom she denied, though her eyes said, yeah, he was there too. And grey dog was taking her away, far, far, away . . . We lunched in Phoenix, leaving grey dog idling in the bay, I told her I was changing dogs, was going another way, she was welcome to smile in seat 4a, to lean against my window, or my shoulder, whichever she may . . . but she said she was leaving back there, this was her day, and her grey dog was taking her, far, far, away. © wesley james beard, jr. september 2012 [This message has been edited by jwesley (09-19-2012 10:13 PM).] |

The grey dog hauled enough of us away from that place we never wanted to see again. Sometimes we found what we were looking, hoping for, and sometime we didn't. Such is life. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Ahhhh. ....I remember your particular gray dog... Keep them coming. It's been too long! [This message has been edited by Sunshine (09-19-2012 10:46 PM).] |

Masterfully told! You painted her well, with just enough mystery, yet I see her growing strength. A very neat write! Misce' |

I really liked the feel of this j. It's amazing how an instance like that with a complete stranger can settle down deep in your soul. You'll never forget those eyes I bet, nor ever see them in mind without wondering impossible possibilities. Great writing. Michael |

Thank you, my friends, for the reads and words. Embellished a little, but true, riding the greyhound in the early sixties. j. |
