winter closes around me
like a tailor-made, form-fitting polar suit
numbs my mouth
drips my nose, freezes my ears
makes me yearn for the hot rays of summer
where I suffocate from the heat
and humidity
sunburn, chiggers and mosquitoes
somewhere far off I hear crows
complaining
crows always complain
no matter the weather
didja ever notice that
standing here in the middle of the swamp
gritting my teeth
thinking of things I've said
there's nothing to fear
but fear itself
okay
somebody else said that first
the moon is crescent
and white
looks like it is frozen
I know I am
as I stare at the frozen bayou
wondering where the alligators go
when hell freezing over
you might ask what I'm doing out here
wearing jeans and a t-shirt
cowboy boots
I'm seeking peace in the form of a woman
not just any woman
no
she is here in the swamp
I sense her
she flits around with the hush of a butterfly
Seawillow
I have come for the peace of mind
Seawillow can give me
no matter that in return for this tranquility
I receive
I relinquish part of my soul
isn't that how it is supposed to go
I mean
even God lays claim to your soul
for the peace and quiet
He can give you
or money, well let's say love of money
greed
same thing you know
you sell off parts of yourself
to acquire wealth
wealth gives you piece of mind
more or less
everything takes from you
we are all in the same boat
except those who don't care about peace of mind
those we lock away
and that too
gives us peace of mind

What a thought provoking write. I like the way you are thinking here. I like Seawillow that is pretty to the ear and brings a lovely image to mind.

I don't really care for peace of mind Perhaps I should be locked away.

Indeed, nothing is free. I guess not even death, seeing how you lose your soul, or its returned or whatever happens after
Money is NEVER free. heh. Enjoyed.

Ah, Seawillow does have a pleasing ring to it, Lori. It is a false front, however that she presents. Thanks for stopping by.

Trina, I used the poem as an illustration that we give of ourselves even when we think we are on top of the game. It is always a trade off.

Peace of mind? Another illustration which brings to the forefront that to have total peace of mind you undoubtedly must be dead. Life would be boring is everything was perfect.

Well written and thought provoking.  I seek quiet and piece of mind to protect me from the chaos around me.

Thanks Earl, and I think most of us, well, maybe not most, but enough of us are in that same boat. The one where we are trying to avoid the chaos around us.

Jerry

Good stuff! Ah that peace, such an eternally sought precious commodity.

Is this really true?
"wealth gives you piece of mind
more or less"
I'm afraid I'll never know the type of wealth you're talking about.

Take care

I don't know about that wealth either, Eric. I'm assuming with enough wealth you can have peace of mind about certain things, but I imagine it will also bring about fears you never realized you could have.

I'm not sure, Jerry. I think I would like to her more about SeaWillow...and all of her more mysterious sides...

Seawillow is an enigma, Sunshine, but it is possible I can persuade her to allow me to explore her a little more.
