After The Past Is Spent

When our first love was blind and new
we rambled under golden skies.
We never needed others girl
with our true love standin by.
But for better or worse sometimes fails
at the finish there's no fairy tales,
And a wisp of smoke sets out to sail
when a lovin fire dies.

Chorus:
But there's a place where new love grows
where heartaches fade away.
Where faith can bloom in calm repose
and laughter lives again.
Where you bare your soul out of bounds
and those old memories make you proud
Where time stands still with no pretense
after the past is spent.

So beautiful was our gracious time
but sometimes visions fall behind.
Some dreams flow over waterfalls
where worn out missions all dissolve
To have and to hold sometimes fails
at the finish there's no fairy tales.
A wisp of smoke sets out to sail
when a lovin fire dies.

Oh these times they change so fast
and dying flames will never last.
But trapped inside there's another us
shining somewhere behind the rust.
So when we see those memories fade
and that wisp of smoke blows away,
there's another light across the bay
where a lovin fire cries.

Chorus:
So there's a place where new love grows
where heartaches fade away.
Where faith can bloom in calm repose
and laughter lives again.
Where you bare your soul out of bounds
and those old memories make you proud
When time stands still with no pretense
after the past is spent.

I can definitly hear it. Well spoken, well sung.

"We'll chase them like rats across the tundra."

Great song.

"and those old memories make you proud / Where time stands still with no pretense / after the past is spent."

Sometimes we only have our memories to comfort us. Sometimes that is enough.

This band's won two grammys for instrumentals. You don't know how that makes me feel as the lead singer!

Jerry
Sometimes that is all but it's always better than nothing.
Many thanks for the read and reply.

Beautiful imagery here, dear Eric. And how great it is to be proud of something in the past.
Very very enjoyable piece/song!

Love,

Oh man, you're killing me over here.  This tugs so hard at my heartstrings.
I really liked this verse

Do you record your lyrics to music ethome?  Do you sing them too?

I just love this bluesy song, this is my very favorite of yours.

All the best to you good poet, Sir~

I love the same bit as BlueS, beautiful piece. Enjoyed.

-Trina.

You'd be surprised by the pain I can imagine inflicting and receiving.

Blues.
I have some recorded to music and others have recorded my lyrics. I sing on a few but strangely not too many.
Many thanks for the kind comments.

Eric
