There is a place In heaven Where angels cloud The heavenly light And sing with The voice of hounds Running the woods In the dark of night And above them all You will hear The chop and bawl Of that one That was The best you’d ever hunted The one That when you get there Will be waiting Tail wagging For the two of you Now young for eternity To run track across fields Down along a creek In and out Through the timbers Locating on a tree And if I find myself In heaven Before you get there And just in case I’m not right there To greet you Don’t worry About me You just head for The old den tree And I’ll be there to meet you Lori Grosser Rhoden©1/4/2010 |

Lively and airy is the tone of this precious posting, Lori. The happiness is apparent even in the hereafter beside that old den tree. Great writing. |

I love the earthiness and the heavenly in this, the humanity of the poet is not lost in lofty platitudes about the hereafter, just the love for a creature, and the desire to be eternally connected by that very human love. Kudos, I enjoyed immensely --- Art |

Thank you Lori. I hope you do not mind that I sent this to my daughter. She and her young son had to have their Rottweiler, which she had bought from the Rottweiler rescue group, put down in October. That was the second one they had to lose in that way. She had her first Rottweiler for eight years but the second was only four years old. For Christmas she chose a mixed Rottweiler and Australian Sheppard who she also rescued, this time from the humane society. I know she will love the poem and share the story with her twelve year old son. He said the two pets are playing together on the moon as that is where he said the first dog went, four years ago. He looks up to see them together from time to time. latearrival |

Sunshine,Margherita and latearrival, I am so very glad that this poem has touched you in some way. This poem was inspired by my husband, whose passion is coonhunting. He hunts and breeds Treeing Walker Coonhounds. This poem was a way for me to share my passion with his. Lori |
