Listening to every heart

Liturgy

We remember, we remember, we remember…

I received a note today, today, today
Draft of a marker enclosed
Celtic cross upon black stone
I received a note today.

“A Kind and Gentle Child of God”
Cherished sister, daughter, friend…
And so the words on stone will say.

On the opposite side facing due west
It will carry words you wrote
Back in two thousand and oh three…
When enough, was more. And more was enough.

I remember, I remember, I remember…

The sisters in charge of your finality
Are struggling so, my dear,
They worry that you’ll come back and
Charge them, then haunt with… “you didn’t hear!”

I think they chose to settle me in
As arbitrator by choice
And give to them your final thought
As if I were ever your voice.

I’ve known no voice now that you’ve gone
And silence roars like any ocean’s waves
I’m deaf and dumb, no writing of songs
As my fingers and mind don’t behave.

Perhaps, in spring, when your marker is placed
My fingers will touch granite cold
Mayhap will be then that I will be saved
And my voice will come back to give gold

With some word that my loss might find freedom
Some sense that I might disclose
The willingness of your soul who chanced death
That others may be so indisposed.

No, it is not an easy matter
to make the choice required,
But God loves you, oh my dear,
on the voice of choice you desired.

~*~

The toughest thing to write, I would imagine. How do you put it all in words and please her at the same time? Thank you for the thoughts

You expressed the loss that you experienced eloquently, which is never easy.  Peace be with you.
