I do not know the worth of words,
though many have weighed heavily.
Grieve, reflect, pontificate--
yet when we die our words still breathe.

Demons summoned in a rage
are angels clipped of wing.
I do not know the worth of words--
but I have used and felt their sting.

Helpless in the echoing -
standing staunch reverberate
knowing I lack fortitude
to chop my hands off at their root;
I'll cease my tongue forever mute
the day I claim my grave.

Apologies do not placate--
I tell you, words reverberate.
I yearn so hungry to be heard;
and yet I doubt the worth of word:

"Forgive me, my disgrace."

Words are what big top barkers use to entice customers to enter. Once the words have done their magic, it  is up to the performance to satisfy.  As the Spanish saying goes, "What you are speaks so loudly, I can't hear what you're saying".

Sometimes I think the world would be better off if everyone was mute and actions alone were what counted.

Great poem, not only in the structure and flow,  but in it's nudge to make one think.

Our written word outlives us.  Speak now and perhaps they'll listen later?  Makes sense to me..

Listening to every heart

Amen.

BUT...only if we leave them written down,
somewhere...berry juice on bark; chisel to stone;
etchings on rock; but especially if ever so gently
left on the heart, as you have done so well in the
past, and will continue to do in the future.

Especially on the heart.

Karen, Both my father and my husband were men of few words. But when they spoke we strained our ears to listen. Today I had a visit with my middle son Rick, and we spoke of his Dad and all he had learned from him. He had his young middle son with him so he had a listen as he had never had the privilege of knowing him. Later I had lunch with my eldest,Tom, (he will be 6o on Friday. Hard to believe) He and I also spoke of his father, my husband and had almost the same conversation. We knew his mind and how it worked as much by his actions as his words. And we expressed how much we respected him.

But you my dear are really obligated to write your words because if not now, then later your close ones will say, "Aha, so she was right. Or "So that is what she was saying, I understand it now".

Don't think it matters about mistakes and faults they're real run of the mill everyday happenings.
The amount of love you take is equal to the amount of love you give.
Same with words, say them, write them, record them, whatever, some good, some bad, they're a vehicle for communication. They matter when it's vitally important that they be heard. I'm being very unpoetic and too realistic aren't I?  Ho Hum Me.............

I don't think you have to yearn to be read around here cause I know I speak for the majority, we all loves ya!!
You writes some wordsmithing soul spinnin stuff and this is nuther one of em!

Ya'all too cool southern belle. Ya'all go on now and have yerself a fine time and use them cool southern drawl words. Ya otta write a poem with them drawling expressions I love'em so!

Care now youse a good kid!

I believe that all have said some things we'd really, really like to take back, but cannot.

It takes time to realize that harsh words almost always come from the speaker's fear. The more we learn to master such fear, the more we understand.

This was for my mother in law, who passed away Sunday night.

We had the usual easy, complex mother/daughter in law misunderstandings-- so I wrote this with both regret and joy, in the same manner as she and I experienced each other.

Thanks for reading, I love you all.

Rest in Peace, Bettie Boo.

In life outside this board, I also just open my mouth to change feet.
