Don't leave a kid alone, you have to be there, always. When they're a toddler they'll chew on something, maybe your work papers when they're a little older they'll write their name, in big letters on the wall when they're in classes, they'll forget to do homework, and fall behind, unsur when in middle school, they'll start hanging out, maybe with the wrong people and as a teenager, they might kill themselves, and leave you there, confused. so don't leave a kid alone. be there, even when you're gone, or you might be left wondering. Be there, even when you're gone. That's the ticket here as I read it, hopefully for good, as in good moral instruction, although unfortunately sometimes, for some kids, for ill, as in memories of dire mistreatment. One shouldn't always smother older kids, though. Gotta let 'em discover some things for themselves, have some semblance of a vision quest. Another good read from your musing pen, thanks. |

Rileigh, This is so thought-provoking - though I did smile at the image of a toddler chewing on a parent's work papers. I am sure it happens... drool all over them there papers! It's always good to read your thoughts. A |

Yes I agree with your poem for the most part but kids do need a little freedom BUT NOT TOO MUCH! As parents and adults we have to protect them from danger. That said children do need to make mistakes on their own because it is part of the growing up process. |

be there, even when you're gone, I think the most dangerous place anyone can be is between parents and their child(ren), but not all parents realize this. Well written. ![]() -Trina. |

Very true, on so many levels. I've got two teenagers and a classroom of 35 4th graders. I'm there for every last one of them. Sometimes I hear my father in me more than I like, but I'm glad he's there. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

Try your best to instill good things in your child. Work hard at it, but you can never be in a position to not leave them alone. Impossible. But if you've installed good things you are there, inside them, even when you're not. . . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(!$! |
