After I lay my burden down, amid my verses and millions of words, what will substitute my pleasure as I travel that "other" path? I can't see life without the written word, a bleak and distant world that would be, for they have been my lifeline, my spiritual mentor, to weather storms I have weathered. I have been captivated by words, And because of that I have been called absurd. You write poems, ain't that a girl thing? Can you make it so the words I can sing? Somebody has to write 'em I guess, Look at that guy Eminem. In my wilder days words comforted me when women could not it was a strange thing the poems I wrote caused sighs from the lovelies still they couldn't understand my wanderlust Words mean everything They are conversational Even if whispered No, I can't envision me not laying down words, even in the joint there were books, Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment I read apropos, do you not think? Words put a hex on me. Even books whose characters names Which were unpronounceable. Read Sarte, Camus, Genet that bunch of pseudo-philosophers but I liked what I read at least the gray matter was being exercised, that's always good If these words I write now would be my last, Hopefully I shan't have written in vain. These faux literary expressions of mine, wondering if my words could be the key, for someone, somewhere to, change their life and become a bard. If that could happen If my words could strike a match That is all I ask [This message has been edited by JerryPat (11-03-2010 08:17 PM).] |

Jerry, in some ways, if I haven't thought along this same line, I know I have written something very similar. Neither can I imagine a time without words... neither in heaven, nor hell. ![]() Thank you. |

Absolutely, Sunshine. In fact hell would really be hell without words. I cannot imagine such a place. Thank you for being here. . . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(!$! |

I am rather fond of "words" myself, Jerry. I like this poem because it reminds me of how much comfort writing has provided in my own life. Ida |

words are coins at the slot machine of life.. do we spend them one at a time and hope they keep dribbling back to us awhile longer...or do we gamble them all at once and if the jackpot comes we never become speechless? enjoyed you are JP |

I like your analogy, Dark Stranger. I'm more like waiting for that jackpot, myself. ebm, I'm sure the majority of folks here at the Blue Buffet (I like that name), for what are they here for if not in pursuit of words. . . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(!$! |

"I can't see life without the written word, a bleak and distant world that would be, for they have been my lifeline, my spiritual mentor, to weather storms I have weathered." Yes, me too. So many things to "see" in this bubble of life that perhaps only become real once we've given them the honour of the written word. Enjoyed! Helen |

Appreciate the positive comments, Helen, very much so. I think words, in whatever form has been the basis for civilization not completely caving in on itself. I imagine the crude cave markings of long, long ago were the first words, albeit pictures. Poems in a way, glorifying the hunt, the kill and the feast. . . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(!$! |
