The lion cub had strayed and wandered through the brush alone.
The elephants, not seeing him, had crushed him to the bone.
The whole scene had been witnessed by a perching myna bird
Who then flew straightaway to  give the lion pride the word.

"The elephants have killed your son", the panting myna said.
The father roared and rushed to where his infant son lay dead.
His throat let out a roar of rage that echoed through the sky
But didn't phase the herd of elephants there, standing by.

The lion knew the elephants would kill him easily
If he tried to exact revenge for his son's tragedy
And then he spied a herd of goats who grazed on grass near by
Oblivious to what had caused to lion cub to die.

"It was the goats who killed my son!", he roared out angrily,
"The elephants are innocent, as anyone can see."
"It wasn't them who murdered him. I say it was the goats!"
And then he charged them, full of rage, and ripped out all their throats.

Mr 'Deer...
fable seems to suit your pen here. What we take from it and how deep we delve is up to us, but your point is enjoyed here.

nice stuff sir....

I like it, I wasn't expecting the end. Enjoyed.

Thank you, folks. Fables are very interesting things sometimes with a lot of  truth and bite.

Eusta....Toerag? He's just an old goat!

Fables...and/or Fairy Tales...
are always truth, refined.

Well done, 'Deer.

A worthy observation of a regrettable human condition, sadly not confined to the feline protagonist.  Interesting take on cowardice, `Deer... enjoyed.

How keen and profound the definition of the scapegoat that you have hereby fashioned. Shakespeare himself, would be envious of the enormity of such poetic insight! I salute you, Sir Balladeer!

That is one cowardly lion. Hopefully it is suppressed before any more innocents are harmed.

Although, and it is an absurd thought, if the goats hadn't been obstinately grazing there, perhaps the elephants would have walked over there and not trampled the lion cub after all.

Wise decision on the part of the lion, if survival is the only goal. Obviously, in the world today there are many cowardly lions. Good satyr.

On the flip side of the coin, here is a video of a woman who had saved an injured lion, nursed it back to health and then gave it to the zoo. Years later she visited the lion for the first time since they had parted. Here's what happened....

An eloquent portrayal of revenge and of how senseless it can be. Poor old goats!
