A Trojan Story The quaking earth was terrible. We are still burying our dead. Helen says they've come to help us--- The Greeks truly are our friends! Up from wooden ships they rise With poisoned gifts and dangling bronze, Past the plains of horse and sheep, The festive banquets planned 'til dawn. To arms! The foreign queen has lied To us from toppled palace walls! Too late the waking scene unfolds, And Troy has truly, truly fallen. Our men's black blood behind us now, Into wooden ships we stare: Into piles of woolen goods And fine horses already there. Woe to the Greeks who have traded thus! Woe to their enmity! Water laps upon pirate ships--- And sad pirates they shall be. |
