There’s a creeping feeling growing
in the belly of a snail.
Small at first it flutters at the thought of more
then shivers through his body
with imagining it all.

“Fine and dandy”, said the fox,
“But you cannot make it stop
and convert it into action
like a man you’re surely not.”

The snail, of course, was overcome
with the truth of it all
and dropped his head into the dirt
ashamed of worthlessness.

The fox took pity, yes, he did
because he knew some men can be
slow and useless like a snail
so he told the snail to be himself
and creep only as he knows to do.

The snail smiled thanks and lifted up
his head that once lacked courage
and when he stepped out of the box
he landed in a river.

The river pounded down, down, down,
and the snail just tagged along
until in the sea he ended up
silent in his agony.

In woe the snail re-thought his life;
surely sun more welcoming
and if you see a snail today
you’ll know he’s chasing sun.

Will he catch it?  Yes, you bet,
but maybe only when he’s dead!

Goodness gracious, dear Helen! You have a great imagination and of course you give us great stuff here.

Nothing and noone is useless under this sky. Better be happy with what we have and who we are!

Love,
Margherita

Dear Margherita.  Yes, a reason and purpose for all things but sometimes things are ... just a bit of nonsense.

It may have hurt, and it may be sad destiny, but one has to admit that snail got around. Meanwhile the fox is probably still hungry and trying to sneak up behind rats and dull chickens. An enjoyed read, deceptively (I almost wrote "slyly") philosophical!

Thanks easy1.  I guess one could join the words and say "slyly deceptive" ... but you weren't fooled.
