That silly old woman is babbling again. Check the back of her neck, the palm of her hand, the sole of her foot. There must be an expiration date. Never mind, She is wrinkled and gray, a sure sign of decay. Just pour her down the drain along with any pearls of wisdom she may have gained while having overstayed her welcome. Ida Werrett |

Hello Ida, I am glad to read you on this site and love this hommage to ederly people, so sensitive and heartful, the world is unfair with his elder that know so much and could help if we were allowing them to talk, instead they are silencious and keep alll their precious secrets because they understand everything....Thanks for the heartbreaking and enlightning poem. regards yann |

(chuckling) Ma'am... I am convinced that my own expiration date will remain hidden from those who would look for it... with age, has come the understanding that I have earned the right to annoy those who are younger... nicely written ma'am |

Oh, gosh, dear Ida, this has tremendous impact! It is also very original ... expiration date applied to humans, it is so pertinent to the feeling of uselessness that sadly is often attached to aged people. Great poem! Love, Margherita |

When I read the title, I thought, oh no, another poem about nothing :-) What a nice surprise! As scary as it is, I'm sure many would welcome the idea... Very thoughtful writing, pleasant to read. |

A thought provoking piece. I'm sure mine is embedded somewhere in my left ventricle... just waiting for the doctor to say, "Dat's all folks!" "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

Only God knows our expiration date; until then we are all still chock-full with worth! (in my opinion) Thanks for the good read~ Amaryllis |

Absolutely delightful, is this little gem with the huge impact, Ida! Sarcasm, annoyance, wit, wisdom, fine observation of the folly of youth and the absurdity of life, and more, all superbly woven into a humorous well-integrated whole! Excellent therapy for many ills! Owl |

Ida, I have to agree with Cpat. I plan to age MY way... and highlight what my strengths are... and understand what my frailities might become. I won't hiss at the mister who says Ma'am, except to say, "are you sure of that?" But if a young'un decides to bend over and pick up what I might have dropped, I may be inclined to enjoy the view. I may even do it a second time! I will smile at everyone, and if they think I'm senile, that's their problem. And I will continue to enjoy the elderly who want to go along my ride...those ahead of me; and those behind me. So much so, I decided to volunteer at a hospice, and turned in my papers yesterday. I figure the sooner I get to know them? The nicer they might be, later. |

Thank you, one and all, and Sunshine, What a lovely person you must be. My daughter passed away at 34 from cancer, I don't know what I would have done without the wonderful people from hospice. I stiil keep in touch with them. Ida |
