I am from foaming hot bathtubs
from Calgon and peppermint candles
from dust in the slant of afternoon
suspended like atoms
in the stillness
.
I am from 2-story craftsman
cozy, wood-loved and cedar
from hydrangea and Douglas fir
whose startled limbs I respect
in storming of wind
.
I am from laughter of children
rain, on the trampoline
from homework and laundry
and honey`d bedtimes
.
I am from Alfred and Imogene
beef stew and strong coffee
from glasses and books; baking bread
from `don`t sweat the small stuff` and
`be still, my soul`
.
I`m from the Finn and Lapland
from cardamom. smoked fish and sauna,
snow in the veins, and the steel
of rigid propriety
.
Snapped from the ancient branches
I`m from a greening shoot
flexible, tender and new

Simply wonderful, Amaryllis!  Certainly makes me want to think where I'm from and I may just do that.

I am from highways with shimmerskin shoulders that whisper my name as I avoid them..highways few have traveled...and none remember.

enjoyed your tour..reminded me of the viking woods of the old country..

very nicely done ma'am... indeed love the line above as it brought images to mind of slow summer afternoons and the light catching motes of dust as they linger..going nowhere.

truly enjoyed your offering...

Green shoots must be respected as much as dance-flailing branches, if for somewhat different reasons. The high-latitude sunbeams surely can slant, too.

An excellent write imho. Enjoyed reading this very much.

As for your question... I suppose I am from the Source, as we all are eventually, of course.

Dear Amaryllis, I adore this! Your style is extremely captivating!

You just inspired me to write another "I am from" poem after the one I wrote a few years ago, in response to a pip poetry challenge.

Thank you, this was such a pleasure!

Love,
Margherita

Amaryllis, I just read Alison's poem & she referred to your original. What a fantastic poem you've written, so alive, it makes me want to have a try. I'm still learning the ropes at Pip & didn't know you followed each others trail like this Thank you for sharing.

And I am Oak,
my rings are hair turned white,
spare flesh around the middle,
the extra hang of fold
in spreading branches
that hold family together.
leaves that fall as promised dreams.
like all of life’s best laid schemes,
branches spread and old limbs creak
living is not for the weak.

I want to thank everyone so very much... it appears the 'I am from' was also a poetry challenge at one point in time, I would have posted mine there, had i known!   So, the inspiration continues... no need to credit moi.     Also, forgive my absence... there has been a death in my family (relative, not immediate family.) so I have been very busy and distracted... thank you everyone, for your comments and for understanding! Cannot wait to be able to get back to poetry; it is wonderful therapy.
Best to everyone...
Amaryllis
