The paper tears
as littering wind
quiets and down drafts
a tiny dead butterfly
onto the remnants of
the quiet morning.

Which deadful minute
callously threw it
across the sky
without even knowing its fragile keep
was so balanced there?

The pearl of a dog's ear trembles
as lolling goes into afternoon;
it would seem that nothing has changed,
if not for the door
and the barefoot cement
where the sun passed so quietly
and left a line of time
in the warmth under one broken wing.

Held my breath for this, dear Martie. How exquisite!

You have found the special Providence in the fall... and very neatly communicated, too.

Martie, this is exquisite-beyond-exquisite.  Thank you for being Martie and for your compassionate sensitivity in mourning the morning butterfly and understanding about the dog's ear and for being able to put all of the quiver-soft elements of this poem into a Martie-poem, as only Martie can.  Your gift enriches us all.  I always know that when I enter a Martie poem, I am going to live to the full, but wow! you outdid even yourself on this one.

Wonderful, Martie!  Yes, life is a series of "little things" and I'm so glad you take notice of them and thereby allow us to as well.

I agree with Cpat Hair, except I think that last line is a perfect close.

Great write.

Good morning, Martie Flowers!
You have the uncanny ability to write about the microcosmic world that only a few ever see. You see not only with your eyes, mind, and heart ~ but with your poetic soul as well.
You write! ~ I read! ~ and I appreciate you as a person and as a poet.

Love and a big warm hug,
Linda
