After Coffee and a couple of eggs I sat at the window seat watching the clouds Thinking back to a time when mornings such as this Would have meant nursing a head as I tried to get the Herd of longhorns who were dancing there to settle down And realized I wasn’t any wiser, just older and not quite as able To wrestle those wild steers as I once was So I kept my taste for Crazy Smooth under control And enjoyed my breakfast more Walking outside in the dappled illusion of sunshine I made a decision to go follow the White a spell It had been years, and in that once of fairy tale bravado I’d made friends with an old lady tougher than me Who had dried me out and at least tried to talk sense Into my flint chipped head I dialed up the Stewarts and talked to Meg She told me the trailer was fine and no They didn’t mind if I left it there a couple more days And that by the way, when they were in town yesterday Old man Rogers had asked if I was still hauling stock When my name came up as they had gossiped a bit Waiting in line at the feed store to pick up some grain She gave me his number and asked me to give him a call If I was interested in a little job he had coming up next week I thanked her kindly, asked about her dad and how he was holding up And after listening a few minutes to the heartache of losing her Mom I hung up and headed the old truck north I guess I could have counted white lines or telephone poles To mark the distance from where I was and where I was heading But the truth is I measured that distance long ago In heartbeats and the hopes I had of finding the right one To help make what was broken whole And knew the distance from here to anyplace I might go Was up to me and what I was willing to give I picked up the White just outside of Eureka And saw she now wore a tourists dress and a lot of the wild Was only make up she put on to catch the eye of those who came To buy her wares and maybe lie along the bed of her In some ritual want they didn’t understand I pulled into one of those scenic view places And pulled out the old map I had looking at the places marked on it in pencil and reading the notes I had written way back then When I first saw her “ I’m not sure how long it was I stayed there with her drinking coffee she offered But know that for a while at least that day I felt a peace within and felt the hole in me Filled” I folded the map back up And pulled out a worn and faded leather bound Found a pen and made my way to the shade of an oak Where I sat and wrote “ Some part of me holds on to the belief That there is for everyone a love that heals and makes us whole We only have to look, and then be wise enough to know When it’s worth the wait, or when it’s time to go.” [This message has been edited by Cpat Hair (08-11-2010 11:21 AM).] |

It's so easy to read you and put my feet up on the dash and breathe it all in....like a scenic drive on a clear day!! Your last verse was the perfect destination. For me, the best place to be. |

The reader wants to pluck first this line then that line, then this other one, like a liberally lush bouquet of multicolored lexeis... but the bouquet grows too large for the bearer, who then simply sits in the meadow and breathes in the scent of the mouth and sound of the voice. Yep...a great summer trip this was. |

Some places Dark, get into your soul it would seem and you can't quite shake them...much like a lover, but less fickle although just as subject to change. Appreciate the kind words and you dropping in... |
