. How odd it is That leaves are most beautiful In the last hours of their lives After rain the road is covered With red and orange—Oak and elm Even the yellow willow by the chain Link fence seems to have something Somehow in silence finally to say The hem of your long wool coat Your designer blue farmer jeans The white scarf with matching hat Your hair that autumn color That youth remembers and is Thereby remembered in return The spectral moon veteran of it all Yet still unable to completely Accept a solace in denial Adds its touch of memory To the scene For wasn’t it however brief Still good to feel and be that way To see the sky as epiphany And hear the sparrows sing . |

I like this one! Leaving "George's Ann" aside for a moment, I can imagine that cloud-rock of a daylight moon, anchored high above the colourful autumn towers... or, after the storm, those nearly bare branches over coloured streets and lawns. |

I think this is so poeticly beautiful, it is tender and gentle, and carries one along in it's peacefulness. I love the lines about the willow finally having something to say in it's silence, such a beautiful way you weave your words. thank you for sharing I will be looking to read more. I am new so I will have a lot to catch up on! regards jennywren when in deep water become a diver |
