For Charlie
We were inseparable as children, he was only 13 months younger
Mom used to say I was his interpreter, as he couldn't talk plain
All my life, my brother Charlie was there to talk to and depend on
I thought it would always be that way
But life isn't always what you think it will be.
He left me before I had time to realize he was leaving this world
Cancer took him away from me and his family, and took Anna the next year
Now there is a hole in my heart and my life, a Charlie-sized hole.
We could play for hours, our minds were so alike, we lived in our own world
When Mom got sick, he was there for her and for me, so supportive
Now they are both gone, and here I am, still trudging on
Someday, I know that I will see them again, that's my hope in life
I love you, Charlie, you were my friend, my brother, my playmate
I will always miss you, no matter how much time passes
The tears don't come as often now, but the hurt holds on in a tiny spot
It will be there until we are reunited.

If Charlie had cancer, it sounds like you probably gave to him as much as he obviously gave to you. How special your relationship must have been. I was diagnosed with cancer in December and have lived through surgery, 4 months of chemo and am just starting radiation. I am sad for your loss and the pain you went through watching him as he dealt with his cancer.
I look at my family and friends and sometimes think they are suffering more than I with the fear of what could be. Charlie was courageous. You are brave and strong, too.

A wonderful tribute, Eldest. Sounds like you were both lucky to have each other. To express such love for a brother is awesome...
