THE HUGENESS OF THIS WORLD

How to hug the hugeness of this world?
barefoot on wet sand, toes guzzling the cool
of an ever-gentle island morning
salt-blossom waves caress an anthracite horizon.
the dawn, smoky-pearl, absorbs the stillness
before a lobster-claw sun yawns, blinks, stretches
into the blush of a timid day.
A white conch smiles pinkly:
don’t collect me, I belong to Now.

A sudden sea turns glacier blue
one lethargic porpoise takes a leap.
the whole school follows in arpeggio,
sharp, slate notes against the bright.
The glory of it bows the reverent palms
and my heart, not big enough,
bursts wide open.

No wonder they call 'em "Conchs" down there... imho: This is absolutely excellent.

That sudden sea appearing upon first (or second) light of the morning is so true. Don't want the icecaps to melt, of course, but glacier blue is very well descriptive of the color!

I can understand this.  Unfortunately when my heart bursts wide open I cry and that's not flattering at all.

Excellent write!
