“Great lands those”, he said as he sipped his tea “The places that you can no longer find on maps” “ Middle Earth, or OZ are just fairy tales now” I nodded as I cradled my cup between palms And remembered what I knew of dreams Once, Up some time of long before or shortly after There were reasons to believe in never end For the rabbit hole still stood with sign And yellow road was brightly paved So few weeds those days it seems To trip upon… “It’s complicated” she said and looked down at ruby slippers not daring her eyes ahead, for she knew the fractured way the fairy tales oft end was not the way of ever after happy or of princess upon the steed that had only been in Hollywood when for a while they wanted stories to end in a smile of hope with faith….. and a few dollars more to make the next….. “My good Man” my companion said with slight scold to voice “are you listening at all to what I have said?” I looked at him and forced a smile as I turned the cup in palms “I’m sorry sir; I must confess I was lost in my own memories” “What do you have to remember sir of such places as you asked?” He inquired with curious tone “Naught of maps or history sir, but of hearts, a great deal” I replied, and thought back to the time of then And cradled close the memories again She looked up in time And in her eyes I saw the struggles mount A duty to the world she left and knew Against the want to stay I touched her cheek with fingertips Looking over rim of cup I saw him stare at me “I must go” I said and rose “There are memories I must explore” Chart 1 from the Appendix I traced the muddled lines along the page To feel the boundaries I knew would not exist but for mind And the will to hold chaos from darkening What was already a twilight of days and a midnight of stars “Old this chart” I whispered to no one “ I can never be” she told me, and the words still come to me with the slight fear within her voice and the edge of cold vowels brought with them when determined met the lips I had drawn crude lines then upon a sheet With glyphs to mark the places I knew I had been Some I might have chance to see again while others Grew smudged “May I see?” she asked “You already do, at least as your eyes will allow” I answered softly but handed her the map knowing she would not see But the lines and crude smudged edges “Excuse me my good man” My companion from tea stood to my side and looked at the chart As he spoke “Yes?” I asked without taking my fingers from the place I knew intersected two world but was only a muddled line On the velum I held “I too was once there” He said “Might I see where you’ve been?” I laughed softly then Knowing he could not quite see where I had been Or how when there the worlds of this realm had no meaning No hold or grip on the soul Knowing he did not know the you of then or now I simply laid my hands flat upon the chart “Here, where the pulse of my heart lies is where I have been m’friend” and for a moment I felt her again move along within my veins to settle as the soft ache she always was in the depths of my soul He smiled an aged and grizzled grin Looked in my eyes and said “I think we have a common friend, and it is not the one who moves in you when you answer.” I could not turn to face him then I did not wish to take my mind from what I felt Or the images that came of her standing in the wind Looking out As the moments of us were born In a land of once some time upon a dream Before we found The empty space [This message has been edited by Cpat Hair (06-21-2010 03:24 PM).] |

Hello Martie! This is the beginning of a series.. several poems along a theme that centers on a conversation within and without... on both memories and a dark sort of fellow as with most anything I ever wrote..best taken in small quantities... LOL but a story of sorts with a thread throughout.. thank you...for your kind reply.... |

I noted a poem ago that you were into a series of sensations again... and you know how much I enjoy your series, your seriousness, and you. Oh yeah, I like the way you write, too. |

Well now ma'am... I admit to being serious most of the time, but also to having a rather dry sense of humor from time to time as well... sometimes the sense of humor is dry enough to be thought serious.... appreciate your kind words ma'am.... greatly |
