Across the way or down below the pianist tinkers on his piano the single mother is not at home no one no where for her nightly show in the attic on the slope the windows peek and perk and I, on the patio, dressed in shorts, and shirt TVs flicker the veiled shears sway the simmer summer ending to another Český day out of view four stories below high heels clop in a tawdry flow fifty feet away or maybe less another woman is getting dressed in the kitchen and at the fridge our lives exposed without a stitch no care, no worry to whats going on we all hum our tune in evening song chuckling while looking at the tower lights glow reminded of a film, some, 50 year ago the music stops and the lights click off the evening bells ring from the church bell clocks the serenade waltz to which we're wed our dear Mr Strauss has slipped off to bed [This message has been edited by martiniat8 (06-07-2010 02:33 AM).] |

I must say I find this poem intriguing. Small snapshots of daily life in a different society and part of the world. The title itself is perfect. I went to a small town in Czechoslovakia once and this poem brings it all back, vividly...thanks for the memories |

Ah, the European way. Thanks for the view. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

Lol - a good read, well-paced (and revealing). I am glad you included some more distant things, and sounds as well as sights. Beijing used to be an apartment-curtainless world, IIRC, but that was at the time more due to poverty. I hear they have discovered curtains and lampshades since. |
