Only Heat Separated (from Boyhood Tales) In the hours between just before and just after, poisonous words flew on heated breath - screamed at times, loathsome, cold – angry, and for what . . . a misstep, a trip, a fall to the bottom step. In the end, you didn’t understand, neither did I. We couldn’t believe what we’d just done, undone, tore apart, blew away! Tips of yours, and mine, fingers so close only heat separated . . . touched, slid together, clutched, squeezed, grasped, pulling our bodies together in a way we never knew before. In the cooling just after and just before, little by little hands separated, came apart, were strangers who no longer understood. I rose, pulled on my clothes; you lay there back to me. In time, maybe in time – the door closed, I walked away, and you, you slept. © wesley james beard, jr. may 2010 [This message has been edited by jwesley (05-30-2010 10:54 PM).] |

This is so very effective and I am reading so much saddness into it. You do tell an honest tale without any frills. Be well good poet, Sir~ |

So much distilled into one poem.. very poignant conclusion.. reader is left bereft along with the protagonist. Well done! |

Powerfully emotional write, dear Jimmy, that touches the heart! ... and food for thought too, as under such circumstances it would be so necessary to understand ... Love, Margherita |

Great poem Jimmy tells a story that is known to most of us. Thank God we learn to be more tolerant as we grow older. Take care Lindsay |

Very strong portrayal of emotion. One can sense that this is a true esperience. A good read. |
