SELLING YOUR HOME 8 August 2005 Sixty-five years within this gardened home dripping with peace, and bird song, hallowed with memories of which I am ignorant, blessed with lessons I have yet to learn, echoing with songs I didn’t hear you sing, thrilling to the laughter of children’s voices down the years, and happy barks long silenced amid reverence and tears. I am just an estate agent buttering my daily bread from the sale of your humble heritage and you are just my clients entrusted to me recently but the ambiance of a serene history wafts through your house, warming your walls inside and out, touching your treasures with late afternoon light, washing over your lush barefoot lawns and bright nodding flower beds and exuding welcome from the folds of your faces both, and I am honoured and touched by your charm and the simple grace of your home and awe engulfs me, as I feel your courage to walk down your garden path for the last time. How wonderfully sensitive you are to the feeling of others, Diana. This is so beautiful, yet sad. My favoriye poem of yours so far. A DEFINITE KEEPER. Ida |

Thank you, Trina. I am so glad it revived happy memories for you. Perhaps a trip home would be a good idea? Thank you, Ida. They were such a darling old couple, and I couldn't bear the fact that they were going to have to leave their home. I have long since forgotten their names and their facial features, but will never ever forget the warmth they and their home exuded. Thank you, Spiros – “sensitive” has its disadvantages! Smiles. Sometimes, Diana, a true "agent" can hear the walls talk. And when that person does hear those particular notes, the home passes on to a new generation.... it's a fine business you're in...when you can entrust greatness from one family to another. |

Good write, not many stay in one place very long anymore. Barely at 25 here but the view is timeless. Peter |

Thank you, Karilea. That is a beautiful thought. I gave up being an estate agent at the end of 2007 (worked 2 jobs for half a year), because the property market had taken such a slide. Thanks, Peter. I have lived in this house for 28 years, and in my previous house for 9 years just round 2 corners. Thank you, Belle for your kind, sweet words. Owl |
