Those high school sweetheart days we loved, we fit together hand and glove. We sang in sunsets spilling gold I can't believe the songs we wrote. We hid behind the graveyard fence your searching kiss was so intense my hearbeat skipped and whirled, oh you were a special girl. You mothered me just like a boy I smothered you just like a toy. Chorus We were young and living dreams happy with our destiny. In the heat we'd sing a toast to King and Taylor's lyric rotes, we sang two heart harmony in the chorus our souls would meet. One on one a sculpture carved together we were modern art. A model for the world to see we'd sing of change with words of peace. We were clean and music deep just like moonlight on the sea. We lived the fairy tales of hope the brand new home the future wrote. We built great plans for future tasks working on the dreams to last. Those growing years we spent together we thought they'd go on forever. But the nature of the boy singing songs telling stories opened doors beyond the stage here tommorrow gone today. When the praises came to rest I tried to fight them with my best but the change from boy to man blankets over younger plans. The years upon your throbbing breast have stayed with me at heart no less. But I booked to other spoils freedom from our midnight oil. Now I sing the tavern shift a folksey rover with a gift. But there's a lost and unheard verse that can't explain our love and work So I play us but there's no you, just smoke filled rooms and jaundice booze. When it comes down to the truth there was no gamble in our youth. Swept away by rushing tides we filled the needs we craved inside. But changes flow from buried streams surface in the thoughts we breed. So now it's over past the end In the chorus I hear a friend. Chorus We were young and living dreams happy with our destiny. In the heat we'd sing a toast to King and Taylor's lyric rotes. We sang two heart harmony in the chorus our souls would meet. ain't doin nothin at all just answerin the call and kinda driftin away from it all |
