My Christmas Tree My Christmas tree still grows In the forest ‘neath the sky Branches bowed with decorations Unseen by the naked eye The kinds of ornaments You can’t buy in any store Made from recollections From Christmases of yore Nights spent until wee hours Putting those toys together Going out late for batteries Into the wintry weather The flushed, excited faces The wide eyes filled with glee Some old memories of those times When that excited child was me Friends and family dropping by With loads of Christmas cheer When leaving, shouting wishes To wish, a “Happy New Year” Some memories of quiet eves In front of a cracklin’ fire A hot toddy, maybe two Before this Santa’d retire But friends and family move And some may really go away But they’ve a place in my heart Christmas Eve and Christmas day For now those kids of yesteryear They suddenly are grown They find mates, get married Have families of their own Those Christmas decorations Need not sparkle and shine For memories bring a beauty Of a very special kind So, though I may be alone And my Christmas tree looks bare That’s not really true ‘Cause of those memories we share. Del “Abe” Jones 80s Poem was presented here. An honor to be included amongst these literary giants > BLACKWOOD — The Readers’ Theatre Project at Camden County College will present a program of original adaptations of traditional holiday fare during three performances on Friday and Saturday. “An American Christmas” is adapted and directed by Professor Allison Green, the Readers’ Theatre artistic director. The dramatic seasonal presentation will be a true family affair, including sing-alongs of time-honored tunes and a visit from Santa Claus himself. Literature from Truman Capote, Francis S. Church, Clement Clark Moore, O.Henry, Del “Abe” Jones and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow will be featured. Songs will include favorites by Irving Berlin; Haven Gillespie and J. Fred Coots; Jay Livingston and Ray Evans; Hugh Martin and Ralph Blaine; and Mel Tormé and Felix Bernard. CCC’s Readers’ Theatre Project aims to heighten audience experience of books, stories, diaries, letters and other written material that wasn’t originally penned to be performed but does inspire oral adaptation. The readers — who are drawn from the college’s faculty, student body and the community at large — deliver the text from script directly to the audience. “An American Christmas” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday. Each presentation will be given in The Little Theatre inside Lincoln Hall on the Blackwood Campus. The campus is located at College Drive and Peter Cheeseman Road in Gloucester Township. "And my Christmas tree looks bare That’s not really true ‘Cause of those memories we share." This is a very heartwarming read. So many lines to pull-out to discuss, but I settled on the close. Beautiful feelings reading this. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

Abe, a very heartfelt writing. This year besides visitng long distance family I decided to make my tree a family tree of the past with head shots from old photos given to me by my mother. What good do all these photos do in a storage box? Now I can see their faces, young/old, here and gone, on my fig tree in the living room every day, to bring back memories. Happy New Year, Abe. M |
