A scarlet pulse, a velvet knack
braille burned upon the heart
wishes which I must take back
and don't know how to start

Shoot me through in arrows blue
till the stars above all hum
You'll love me until tomorrow
... may tomorrow never come

Make no excuse for trespass
Love will not break its rule
I'm merely echo in deep crevass
sweet folly's thief and fool

For the orb which life confers
is never drawn by whim
nor stardust promises insure
the fantasies hid within

Watersilk tears, fading dreams
petals in nebulae bloom
fall to wind and turbulent streams
beneath a truant moon

At my feet lies innocence
in mortally wounded sorrow
weeping among thorns so dense
roses in want of tomorrow

xoxox  Not being here much in recent months, I have missed you and your poetry, Alison ... the insights and radiance that reach through these blue pages. Winter is bluster and rain here in Oregon at the moment, but I know you will have ice and snow.  Stay warm!     Karen

Difficult to share more praise upon you and this poem, because Alison and Margherita have already done that, but this is a reaching out and touching you poem in the highest order.

Margherita, there was a knock on my door one day, and a stranger stood there in camo and a bandana on his head, a great smile on his face as he asked about a car that has been awaiting repair for some time.  The car was not for sale, so he thanked me and then laughed.  He said he was a new born Christian.  In the crook of his arm were two roses from my front yard...one huge yellow bloom and one red one.  "I couldn't resist!" he said, as he bounded off across the lawn.

He was a rascal and too full of mirth to begrudge him the roses.  All I could do was laugh, too, as I closed the door, and envy his light-hearted joy in the moment!  ~K

Jerry,  I appreciate your eye to these lines, too, and the pot pourri of petals...

Tracie, thank you for the soft touch back. I read that thorns help hold moisture for roses, and the more thorns there are, the hardier the rose. There are yellow rose climbing my holly tree...double indemnity!   )

I miss holly trees and the City of Roses.  I used to live in Oregon; for many years.  The very first stanza completely captivated me.  I love the imagery of braille burned upon a heart.

Nicole, ah, thank you! There are those who touch so deeply the heiroglyphics last a lifetime, yes?     I also lived in the City of Roses at one time, many years ago.

This is a beauty!
So much depth and passion.
That last stanza deserves a hug!
A poet you are, Klassy Lassy.

Karen, I hear a song in this poem,
the second stanza being the refrain.

It's lovely...and it seems to lend itself
to music.

Be a dear, find someone who can assist you
in that...it has a very Celtic sound. May I
suggest a duo that might do it justice?

I will wait...almost patiently!

Jo, Oregon is a lovely and diverse state with some primitive places.  I would miss not being here, too.  Born and raised in Oregon, I have traveled very little except in imagination, but the poetic journeys have blessed me, perhaps more than the real travel.

JL...   Poetry is  nothing unless if it is not shared, and your kind words along with the others, let me know I am not writing in a vacuum.     The feedback is a gift.  Thank you!

Sunshine,  Really?.... I'm not much of a musician, so I didn't consider putting this to music, but I have enjoyed some Celtic singers and have some Celtic lineage. So that's an intriguing thought, to say nothing of my surprise! You made my day!

What/who did you have in mind?
