Frostbitten All quiet now, the air is still. I reach to her, but feel the chill. So, in silence, as hands retract, She ne’er feels the forbidden act. To give her space, I walk the cold Night on my own, but truth be told; I’ve never felt so frail – so weak, But just don’t know the words to speak. As night, no friend of sympathy, So slowly bleeds the chance from me; I walk on, knowing no other way, Till midnight black greets the gray day… And from the darkness where she slept, From dreaming comfort she is swept Away to face the day, and stands, Shadow beyond frostbitten hands. The bitter cold now piercing skin, I know, only too well, my sin… Yet open up my heart to bleed This purely insatiable need. ‘Recall a voice from days long past, That speaks of truth, and love that lasts – Carry it with me in my head, To face a living world, dead… Until sun crescendos in climb; Her song, the whisper of a time Where ev’ry maddened minute bled Won’t serve to feed dreams too well fed. Still, as it falls to the dim west, Stirred ambition resumes its quest… All quiet now, the air is still. I reach to her, but feel the chill. Michael Anderson 1/02/2012 I strike! I’ve never felt so frail – so weak, But just don’t know the words to speak. As night, no friend of sympathy, So slowly bleeds the chance from me; This aches, my friend... the sense of hopelessness is so strong it makes me shiver... or perhaps my shiver is from remembrance and appreciation. I identify well with the above lines... and I love the way you frame the poem by repeating the beginning lines at the end. Very powerful, wonderful work! |

Nicole, two ‘s trumps one any day. Ruth, sadly I’ve had years of practise in “framing the ache.” I’m a bonafide expert I am. I am also sorry that you identify with this at all. Ms. E, indeed, I will. Ida, thank you for commenting. I’m glad you enjoyed. Michael |

somehow I feel this and could probably write something with the same feeling if I could get a break from my unemployed husband |
