mustered out on December sixth waiting for a mainland plane girl at home waiting alone for the boy becoming a man sunday morn was quite disturbed by zeroes flight in homeland's calm rapiers of the rising sun bared their swords, emptied sheaths and hickam dissolved into the scrap yard of a nation's hopes and dreams while fliers watched as flying machines were strewn upon the ground chaos filled the air, the sea, the land as manhood strapped his skinny chest with armor from within and courage welled like sea-crest waves for the boy becoming a man This poem was dedicated to my good friend Harry—survivor, gentleman, soldier (Harry was stationed at Hickam Field, Pearl Harbor.) His tour of duty ended on December 06, 1941, a Saturday. While waiting for a plane to the mainland to begin his new life as a civilian, Pearl Harbor was attacked, and the rest is history… Harry recently passed away. I wanted to honor his memory once again by re-posting this tribute. He will be missed. |

Nice tribute to your friend. ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ |

Blues, thank you...Harry was fun to be around...didn't talk much about the war and far more interested in telling you his latest jokes...as I said, fun Jerry, thank you...as he surely will be missed Lori, thank you...though I don't do re-posts often, I really wanted to again share his memory (one truly worth re-visiting) |

Great tribute and a wonderfully worded poem. Excellent! Eric Forget the Psychiatrists they just find out all about you and sell you back to yourself! |
