A Wish on A Star

Crackling firewood
and the smell of pine,
cold wind,
frost on my window
sparkles and shines…

A bottle of wine,
and the quietness of night,
all that is missing is you,
to hold tight…

Reflections of you,
in my mind seem to stay;
where memories of past times
do joyfully play…

My love for you so true,
and will never unwind,
from the first day I saw you,
through all of my time...

I lift my glass,
of dark ruby Bordeaux;
yearning to see you,
walk in through my door…

I wish you happiness, sweet love,
and good cheer,
but being without you,
is drearier each year.

So, a toast to you,
with a wink of my eye,
a smile in my heart,
and a kiss bound over the sky…

To you my love goes,
wherever you are,
as I peer out my window,
and wish on a star…

.
.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.
Maranatha!

This is priceless, JL. To be alone with a bottle of red is not such a positive thing. I do it each night and the holidays for me are also spent alone. I've worked hard throughout my life to make it this way, so I don't have a reason to complain. But I from, from time to time. Good cheer, buddy.

What a tender ache this has, and such poignant memories.  I feel as if they're my own; I enjoyed this, thank you.

Got to disagree with JP2 --- don't like wine!
Other than that (and a glass of Eggnog, heavy on the rum) and your piece is outstanding!!!

Enjoyed the 'nog (hic) ... er, the write, my friend.

This is poignant perfection, my friend. But if your star wish is fulfilled, you will let me know which one to wish on, right? *S* Beautiful work!!

Margherita, thank you so much!!

EmmaRose, Thanks for the kind words.

J.,  Eggnog is good, that works for me too.
--------------
Michael, I will, I will.  Thanks.

Suthern, my star wish is always fulfilled; and I will tell you where it is.  On a clear night go outside look for a pattern shape like a sideways square with a handle.  The star is the farthest point of the square, like the end of a spear, if you watch it for a few moments you will see it twinkle, to remind you of your importance in the creation.  It was created just for us.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Very nice poem jl, and I do like your reply to Sutherns reply.....:-)

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

I think I've been there, done that, a few times in my life but you make it sound ... magical!  Think I can look at things differently now.

I've been travelling this last little while (in Seattle now) and thought I had left my password at home but found it today and can now comment.  I have been reading and been enjoying your posts of late.

Helen
