She told the winter
I want to be free of this pain
the ridges below the northern heights
cant seem to hold my heart much longer

Teetering on the line
with her hands like the vowels
that left her quiet, porcelain mouth

Beauty of the warm Sudan
the heart of a woman
that chastised the fire
to be free of the winters pain.
