Is it a blessing? or a curse? Supposed gift of mine… Ability to think, and write… The things I think, in rhyme. Ability to phrase my thoughts- Yet leave the meaning clear… With rhyme and meter, pleasantly- They fall upon the ear. And, also, to lay feelings bare- To take my words of rhyme… To paint a tapestry so real- It takes one back in time. To touch the feelings deep within- And make real teardrops start. Arouse one’s anger, and to stir- Emotions from the heart. Yet, I, much like Cassandra- Find others oft adverse- And often moved to anger, or hatred By my verse. Perhaps ‘tis true, that I should cease- Close inspiration’s door- And put away the pad, and pen… And speak my verse no more. |

John, I can't imagine ANYONE being provoked to anger or hatred by your verse. We all enjoy it much too much. I believe that your ability and need to be able to write and think in verse, is a gift. Sensitive people feel pain more, but they feel joy more too - and through both, they live more. I know that for me, it is more important than breathing to write poetry, read others' poetry and appreciate the world (including people) in poetic thoughts and feelings, long before those thoughts and feelings have become words - and soooooooooo many of mine never do - there just simply aren't enough hours in the day for me to write all my sensitive appreciation (or hurt) of the world. Without poetry (and animals), my life would be barren. With it, I am far richer than Midas. Writing, though it brings the pains of the past, is cathartic. I think I have recently found the source of my inexplicable good health - I think it is my ability to cry - when I was younger, I did it in secret - even now, I try to hold it back in front of non-cyber friends, but here, in the blue pages, I don't hide my tears from anyone. I let them flow freely. Jimmy (Wesley) said once somewhere something about the cathartic effect of tears too. Tears don't always have to be literal, though. Many are heart-tears which one lets flow without a need for them to flow on one's face. The secret is to let oneself feel. Please allow yourself the catharsis of writing and us the pleasure of reading your poetry. Please don't stop writing. Owl |

Hey. 'slinger, if someone is moved with disdain or hatred by your words, you are doing something right! Poetry is designed to target emotions of all kinds, otherwise we would all be writing for Hallmark. As Maxine says, "Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter." Write on, traveler |

When a muse is silenced, we all lose. I hope you continue to let yours speak. |
