These are the days of mourning, when even the sky sheds tears
As we honor a life cut short by far too many years
I grieve, but choose to remember the laughter in your eyes
It is the living that matters, much more than how one dies

Your arms outstretched in greeting as you raced to greet my dad
His love was a stand in for the daddy you barely had
Your blonde hair whipping in the wind, the screams of pure delight
When we traveled to the state fair and rode rides half the night

You followed your older cousins as we tromped through the woods
There wasn’t any keeping you back – if we did, YOU could!
A pout was often on your face – you loved to get your way
But then a sly grin would peep forth, leaving the scowl betrayed

Your walk down an aisle on husband’s arm, a picture of grace
Homecoming from a trip abroad, joy spread across your face
As you announced with pride that a baby was on the way
And loving look defined you as you watched your children play

MS stole your mobility, then your man ditched his wife
It may have seemed to many that you had a rotten life
But love and courage always poured from your very cells
And now today, I swear I hear the peal of heaven’s bells

Ah, this is so sweet and sad at the same time.  Love remembrance and tribute from such a sweet lady.

Hugs for you, suthern...

JL, Jo, Jerry & Richy: Thank you so much for your loving and caring responses. We had Bev for longer than I thought we would. She was diagnosed before her children were born and now Michael serves our country as a decorated soldier and Sarah's a beautiful young woman. Hugging them was holding a part of her disease could never conquer... more than memories live on. *S*

Again, my sincerest thanks.

((HUGS)), Ruth.

quote:

Those are words to live by.

And, indeed, with the pealing of heaven's bells, the good memories are that much better.

Thank you for being whom you were to her, Ruth.  I read this earlier, but was too choked up to reply.

Thank you, Sunshine. *S* Most of my cousins are male... so the few girls had to stick together... usually plotting ways to make the boys include us. *G*

Bev touched many lives and she continues to do so through your poem of love and appreciation. This truly brought tears to my eyes but a smile to my heart. God bless.

Love,
Your friend,
Linda xo
