Oh Heart, Oh Soul It was the little bit of frankness you always used when speaking to me that made me want to run - run and hide my face in the sand. It's the embarrassment I always felt when saying something to you, that kicked me in the behind, that called me stupid and dumb for saying such a thing. . . . and all the time me thinking I was cool, and glib, sharp and witty. . . and yet, I always ended blushed and shameful. It was the time you took my hand, high-school, nineteen sixty-one, Home-coming Dance, me holding up the wall . . . "Please dance with me," you said. And the years that have long gone by, the years in which I still can't look you in the eye without ending blushed and shameful for the thoughts that rush though my mind . . . It's the years we have left, the ones we've already shared, and those eyes, those eyes of yours, that never, never, stop warming mine. Oh heart, and soul . . . oh wife, oh Love . . . of mine. ~~~ © wesley james beard, jr. october 2011 |

I think when people learn that it's not always beautiful, that there has to be give and take, that God gave us individuality, yet the ability to meld with others, then the beauty of living your vows will far exceed the rest. Idealistic, I know, but far from unattainable. It's only rare if we allow it to be so. j. |

You are really on a tear lately with your uplifting poetry. It is good to read that love is still strong. ~*~ Tell me whom you love, and I will tell you who you are.--Houssaye ~*~ |

You've taken the hard knocks and good times and woven them into something lasting and lovely... I applaud... and envy. *S* |

She must be quite a lady to warrant such a poem, Jimmy. Ida |
