in the shadows

Heard some freakers talking ‘bout The Movement,
talking like it was a thing alive
saying, "What's The Movement up to lately?"
doin' up the current Movement jive,

hoping there's a camera in the shadows
recording all their antiquated prose,
not caring if it's truth they shovel daily
only if their public's rating grows.

Any blemish real or just imagined
is focus for their spotlight's daily rage,
truth is less important than the talk shows
and a two inch column on their morning page;

as they speak the smoke around them thickens,
as facts become mirrored shades of lies,
all they require is our worshipful  acceptance,
they seem to think they are gods in disguise.

So, just keep those contributions flowing daily,
seems to be the only message they can drive,
the world may go to hell in their new basket
but Movements die when they become alive.

How did America get from Animal House to Animal Farm? I read this poem and for some reason recall a mental picture of Phil Donahue on TV yelling at some poor honest person with pseudo-livid rage...

The mass media largely sucks now. Hooray for the Internet, what can I say?
