We're one and all, riding life's road alone,
we ride the road hoping not to be thrown.
Are we predestined to accept our fate,
as we rush on, learning of love and hate.

Whether we have a love to hold onto,
when its all down to it, its up to you.
No one can tell you how to ride this road,
and if they could you'd be less than a toad.

Why when we feel destiny's cold hard clutch,
we try to shake it off, we hate the touch.
We believe our lives are in cloistered space,
at times it is difficult to touch base.

We hee to the left; we haw to the right,
but the path we chose doesn't look so bright.
We find ourselves stunned at what we've become,
we march right along behind our own drum.

Wait! I mean it wait! Don't take that next move,
we say, like we have something to prove.
We'll just walk a different path, we're so hip,
we actually think we steer our own ship.

As we ditty-bop down on this new way,
it becomes apparent we've gone astray.
Nothing to it, we have nothing but time,
The last road we've taken, too hard to climb.

We've deluded ourselves; we're where we were,
all our tricks have turned into one big blur.
Death faces us now, no where else to go,
Ah, if we'd only knew then what we now know.

But we know it now, so Carpe Diem!

Careful what you insinuate about toads.  I love toads.  Smiles.

I am very, very sorry I said anything that would hurt your feelings about toads, Owl, that was not my intent.

Excellent write, dear Jerry. These are profound reflections of our attempts to bring some meaning to our lives. When we begin to think of not having much time left, we wish we had achieved more and been better captains of our ships ...

Yet, all is well, dear friend, all is well.
We are still in time to learn to love ourselves and the others a little more. It's all that really counts.

You are ever so right, Margherita, there is always time to learn, although for some of us we have to be beat over the head with a stick to get our attention.

Thank you, always, for coming to where I live and write.

Hey Jerry, Love your ponderings on this subject as you are so to taking the hard look at it. But as per usual Margherita says it best. I think as we get older life
can use gentler sticks to "beat us with". I don't think I'm nearly as hard headed as I was when I was in my teens and twentys.

Good morning, Lori, I agree with you one hundred percent. Age doe slow us down and readjust our way of thinking.

Well, don't ask me... I took way too many blows to the head to even be able to notice one now.

Some deep pondering, friend... anyone ever tell you that's dangerous?  It is!  Kind of makes me want to look for a wagon to fall off of.

Nice read, though.

Glad you liked it, Michael, even though it was too deep and dangerous. I fell off the wagon once. It isn't that hard of a fall.

Yeah, suthern, I feel that is pretty much a lot of people's life's journey. Thank you for reading and commenting.
