CAUGHT
27 August 2011

Wandering down the evening pathway
we used to meander down together
I heard you calling my name –
funny how the mind can play tricks -
but no, that was definitely you calling me
some distance ahead of me.

I called to you to wait for me,
but your voice, teasingly, tantalisingly,
remained ahead of me
so I ran to catch up with you,
wanting you back
and as I stumbled over a root
you stepped out from behind a tree
and caught me in your arms
so I didn’t fall . . .

and as my lips started to form the words,
“Thank you”
you silenced them with yours
and I melted
under the patchwork
of stars.

Quite simply delightful and charming, dear Diana!

You made me feel as if I was eavesdropping ...

You do romance so well, Diana. Have you ever thought of writing a novel?

Smiles, Margherita.  Thank you for enjoying it so much.

Thank you, JL.  I love that darling little birdie.

Thank you, Ida.  I am honoured by what you say.

I once started a novel for children, but didn’t get far.  I don’t think I would know how to write a novel – now short stories – that is entirely another matter – but haven’t written any since I was a teenager – and then they weren’t long enough to be short stories.  The idea of short stories is tempting, but I probably couldn’t write them after all, but it was fun thinking about it for a moment.

How delicious to be caught in loving arms.  I so like the your use of the word "patchwork".  Heart, stars, quilts, and mosaics.  Lovely and romantic! ~Karen
