LESSONS LEARNED FROM SAINT-ÉXUPÉRY’S FOX
10 September 2011

If I didn’t know you
I would think you are
just like millions of other men,
but it’s too late for that,

for, as the fox
learned to know Saint-Éxupéry’s Little Prince,

I learned that you shine
your touch-whispers
through the sun,
and stroke moonskin
with soft fingertips,
and paint the sky
with the glorious colours of your heart.

Aren't you just lucky to know this man and to have us glimpse at his heavenly qualities through your magical pen!

Enjoyed your write.  Especially the first stanza.
"If I didn’t know you
I would think you are
just like millions of other men,
but it’s too late for that,"

“Tell me who admires and loves you, and I will tell you who you are.”

and

“I remembered the fox. One runs the risk of crying a bit if one allows oneself to be tamed.”
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Philosophic poetry always reveals a meaning, but the eye always misses what the heart understands.

Yes, Margherita, aren’t I lucky to know him!  Thank you!

Oh, JL, I see you know The Little Prince very well.  I absolutely adore the book and have read it more times than I can remember – aside from it being a French setbook for my pupils when I was a French teacher.  Thank you for enjoying my poem.

I have never read this book, but I think I will now.  The poem is magical and weaves a joy that we all should come to know.  Thank you for sharing, Diana!  It's a heartsmile!
