Floundering The road leads on, though day is gone, And guides me soft as a light. Through realms unknown, walking alone – Sharing with none else this plight. A look on eye bespeaks the lie Of a penance somehow paid. But truth be known, I’ll never atone For the choices that I’ve made. They dance, a starry silhouette – These shadows I seem to chase. A wispy sea of memory Drawn against yesterday’s face. And I might spin that pirouette In chance to once again feel, But fall to dream beneath the seam Of what’s true and what can’t be real. But why peel scabs? Why lick the wounds When pain lingers eternal? Why sneak that chance, seeking romance That burns far more infernal? In the silence, so well-attuned To the darkness that surrounds me, I but close my eyes to realize It’s only what’s seen that confounds me. The road leads on and I, though drawn, Don my self-improvised chains… By night, by day, bleed trust away – Save for the noose what hope remains. Shut down the heart; take up the part Of a man no one else can tell, By smile on face or soft embrace, Is merely floundering in hell. Michael Anderson Like one that on a lonesome road Doth walk in fear and dread, And having once turned round walks on, And turns no more his head... Coolridge |

And I might spin that pirouette In chance to once again feel, But fall to dream beneath the seam Of what’s true and what can’t be real. As long as vision is not distorted, the truth will always rise to the surface. There is hope in this one. |

You, Michael, hold the blue ribbon for beautiful rhyme whether it is sad, as is this one, or beautiful as you pen also. ~ If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong. ~ |

I always have to read your poems several times... not to get the meaning (even though I AM blonde *G*)... but because I'm like a child with a shiny new toy, mesmerized by your sublime rhymes... even when the words themselves ache to the very soul. But why peel scabs? Why lick the wounds When pain lingers eternal? Why sneak that chance, seeking romance That burns far more infernal? Because we hope? Because we believe? Your words are yours and everyone's chain is different... but the floundering is familiar territory. Heartbreakingly beautiful!! |

Yes, hearbreaking and so well written. This reminds me some of Jack London's poetry in how it flows with the internal rhyme. I like it, heartbreaking and all. Alison |

"The road leads on and I, though drawn, Don my self-improvised chains… By night, by day, bleed trust away – Save for the noose what hope remains" fine silver lining in these few lines, Michael. Fine writing. "The secret behind survival of mankind is kindness and love within our hearts" |
