Wondering, Bothered, and Bewildered The Fourth is a ‘coming That Declaration, who we are But this day, I wonder How, did we stray so far? We stood up, for something In which, we believed But it seems now-a days Our Nation, was deceived. We put our trust in People And, it worked for awhile Sometimes, I want to cry But, sometimes it makes me smile. More often, I think back To, when radio, was new To when neighbors, had TV When, all, test patterns, we knew. When, I got up on the roof Neighbors house, was on fire When, without my help The consequences, dire, I remember gathering tinfoil When, I could barely crawl Peeled from cigarette packs Mom, remembered in awe. She put on this steel hat And walked down through the “hood” To make sure, all lights were out Because, of what the Jap’s could. I remember planes in the night Flying off, to War But, at least at that time We knew, what War was for. We even used “that bomb” To put that War to rest But, we couldn’t stand it We had to put it to the “test”. Not for the good to our World But, ‘most to maim and kill Our technology could save us If, we humans would only, will. I know, not, in my lifetime. Will we steward, our Earth I will never see, just what The Human Being is worth. We could turn this World To a place of peace and love If, we’d pray, unto ourselves Instead of someone, up above!
