Along the bank in beds of grass It lay unseen by beast and bird The summer pond was still as glass The weeds stood tall and undisturbed No breeze intruded on the scene No whisper entered this domain So soft the cradle, plush and green So dear the treasure it contained The sky was gray with morning mist The laden clouds were hanging low With great restraint did they resist To spill the secret we now know No words were uttered to the pond No lyrics sung, no measured rhyme Sometimes the things of which we’re fond Remain unspoken in their time And so it was, this silent verse Upon a bed of grass and weed Held all my thoughts until dispersed Across the page that you now read |

Taking on the unspoken is an awesome (hate that word, but it seems to fit here) task. To horde secrets of the pond, i.e., "So dear the treasure it contained." Intolerant people are the people who do not believe the way we want them to, which makes us intolerant by default.—July 26, 2010 |

Thanks for sharing the secrets of that pond. And hey Liz, it's great to see you again (and to hear you're doing so well!). |

Oh Lady Santos... how good is Grace, and Love. That you might pen again across these blue pages is all that we prayed for, and more. But, dear, I have to tell you, as I read this wonderful offering? I heard frogs. And that's not easy, in Kansas, in January. |

This is very beautifully written. I loved the imagery. I could picture your words in my head. When the family is together, the soul is at peace - Russian Proverb |

My my Elizabeth I just love and always have loved, the way your beautiful word pictures flow down the page so eloquently. "No words were uttered to the pond No lyrics sung, no measured rhyme Sometimes the things of which we’re fond Remain unspoken in their time" This is simply wonderful poetry. Eric Love does not look after it's own interests. |

Liz, this is lovely, lovely, lovely. I read it a second time, after I read what you said, with the background music of the frogs and loved it even more. The froggy voices added even more peace and serenity to the scene. Owl |

Love it - a whole poem, beautifully written, about nothing else other than itself! A lesson to anyone struggling with what to write about, really enjoyed. |

Beautiful poetry. Sometimes free verse cannot capture the moment like rhyme does. This is an example of that. You are very good with that art form. "No words were uttered to the pond No lyrics sung, no measured rhyme Sometimes the things of which we’re fond Remain unspoken in their time" Simply beautiful, with wisdom displayed. A good poem for me to read this morning. Thank you |

Right you are, ice. Lady Santos is the queen of meter and rhyme. Your poem is like the pond. Liz...smooth as glass without a ripple...I float on your words, as always |
