woke up this morning spiderwebs covered my brain clutched and gripped would not let go looked in the mirror for a look-see stared back at the hollow eyes from pictures of death camp survivors Dachau, Treblinka, Auschwitz, et al if anything creative hovers inside those eyes they are refusing to come out and play tried a poem and another a third try, same result no sense working on the novel brain won't function not today it's been thirty-odd years that I've gone on a binge feel like going on one today I won't wouldn't help I know what the problem is spend too much time here in the Hovel talk to my mutt go to the store take her for a few walks daily but basically I sit here and mold brain cells are giving up for want of human conversation becoming extinct at an alarming rate dreamed last night about my future not too sure I'm overjoyed about it seems I'm going to be initiated into a misplaced tribe who wanders in and out within your essence I had to wake up sit up try to stop the dark thoughts from line-dancing through my mind thought about drinking a Bloody Mary but all I had was the celery drat thought about going down where the prostitutes hang around like cheap dresses an ogle them like a celibate schoolboy instead I'm writing this poetical soiree if you count an event as myself, the mutt and you then soiree works for me okay! I do believe I've written myself out of the doldrums how about that? ~ Plastic surgeons are always making mountains out of molehills. ~ |

Of all the alternatives you envisioned I think this was a great choice, your brain functions well and you keep it in good exercise, but then conversations are important too. Sometimes we must reach out to others, there is always an opportunity. There are surely also other dog lovers who go for walks. Dogs can create connections. People usually are diffident, as if saying a word to them means wanting something from them, but in most cases they crave some contact and will appreciate a few words of kindness, which can develop into a nice conversation. Well at least you woke up, J.P. This reminds me of a John Prine song.. "When I woke up this morning, things were lookin' bad Seem like total silence was the only friend I had Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down... and won And it was twelve o'clock before I realized That I was havin' ... no fun" Maybe an "Illegal smile" might help? Kidding aside, I think this would make good song lyrics. |

John Prine. Haven't listened to me in years. Used to love him, and still do the first album or two, it is politics that made be shy away from him over the years. Hey! You were right. At last I woke up, at this age that is a miracle. Have a good day man. ~ Plastic surgeons are always making mountains out of molehills. ~ |

thought about drinking a Bloody Mary but all I had was the celery I admit it; I chuckled. Sometimes, a rambling catharsis is just what the doctor ordered. They even manage to have their moments of genius. |

Thanks, Capricious -- love that name -- I agree, this isn't the first time I've "talked/wrote" myself out of the doldrums. Thanks for stopping by. ~ Plastic surgeons are always making mountains out of molehills. ~ |

Well done, Jerry - for the poem and the personal victory. That is the very best way to get out of the doldrums, to be able to do it yourself - not that help isn't good too, but on your own is best. Hugs and love to Zoe and love to Maude. Owl |

Writing gibberish is much better than procrastination, my friend - at least one gets somewhere, even if it's only to the signs that give direction... enjoyed, j. |
