As A Lover, Not A Friend She touched me in a way I'd never been touched before, as a lover, not a friend. She touched me as if her heart suddenly found life after death, and the only reality in all of existence, was me. She touched me as if her soul was shown the way to heaven and was told I was it's task to fulfill, the golden stairs it had to climb, the gates through which it had to pass. She touched me as if she loved me, life was all that we had, and she and I were meant to be. She touched me as if she wanted to, as if her soul longed for nothing else, as if I was everything to her. She touched me, in a way I'd never been touched before, in a way only she could have done. She touched me, thirty-seven years ago. © wesley james beard, jr. march 2011 (revised) [This message has been edited by jwesley (04-14-2011 11:36 AM).] |

It is fantastic to hear about the ones that worked. I guess there are more than we think, because most people don't write poetry about the ones that worked, just the tragedy of those that didn't. Nicely done, j. ~ At the siege of Vienna in 1683 Islam seemed poised to overrun Christian Europe. We are in a new phase of a very old war. ~ |

i liked the repeating phrase "she touched me as" its made the poem more real, also the last line "she touched me 37 years ago" great ending. *hugs* |

You both still have the same smile and I can see the love you share. Thank you, Jimmy, for this - it's wonderful to get to know you just a bit more. Alison |

Oh what a tribute to you and both of you as an example of what love and devotion are. My father just passed a couple of yrs ago, him and my mother were married 54 yrs. She still struggles everyday, but we try and hold her up the best we can. But you and your wifes real love and commitment reminded me of theres. What a beautiful thing to see. ANd the photos they were awesome. Thanks for sharing!!! Dreamgal |

Fairytales are written about imagined happiness. Your poetry is about real and earned happiness. You have both truly made your own happiness. Congratulations and celebrations! You deserve each other and I am very glad you found each other. Love the poem sandwiched in between the photos! Most impressive. Owl |

life was all we had, and she and I were meant to be. Your smiles and your words confirm each other's message. This is indeed a very beautiful song of gratitude for your love. Love, Margherita |
