What would be my poetry, if I were not in love
It would be like cooing of a fallen mourning dove
Like water gushing through the rocks with not a single sound
Like seeds that are alive beneath the snowy winter ground

Poetry is what’s engraved in corners of your eyes
It is the wrath of summer storms and thunders in the skies
It is the passion and the rage, the sorrow and the dread
It is the hope, it is the need to speak what must be said

But it is also pure and tender sweetness of the word
It is the silence of a page, consumed but never heard
It is the magic mystery that only words impart
A spear that pierces through defensive armor of the heart

What is poetry if not the power of the word
If I were but a wren it would be twitters of a bird
If I were chapel bells it would be resonating gongs
And if a summer rose, my verse would be my silent songs

It would appear that Chalmette Guy and I are of the same mind!

Good morning, Liz! Who better to write about writing poetry, than a true poetess such as yourself!

Lovely penning!

Have a fabulous day!

Love & Poetic Light,
Linda

quote:
It is the silence of a page, consumed but never heard
Any page consumed by you, dear LIz
Is never silent, no indeed.
It shouts out words of beauty
Every poet in here will read.

It is a heart I can hear beating
From Vancouver to PA.
It is a tear I can hear falling
Poetry just seems to work that way.

This IS a keeper!

~elizabeth...

your writing is beautiful...

i especially liked this:

Poetry is what’s engraved in corners of your eyes
It is the wrath of summer storms and thunders in the skies
It is the passion and the rage, the sorrow and the dread
It is the hope, it is the need to speak what must be said

It never ceases to amaze me that seemingly ordinary people can write such extrodinary poetry. What to they say "from the mouths of babes." You must be quite some babe!
