                 thief of time

bare rock and trees awash
in grey-cold December rain.
beyond this lonely winter window,
lies an alien, somber, indifferent world
with the silent thief of time in waiting,
to defile body, mind, and spirit,
leaving the heart an empty vessel
bereft of all joy and hope,
but for memories and dreams
of Spring and Love … forever young …
that shall simply NOT be taken.

beautifully done poet

"memories and dreams" lay themselves as a warm blanket against the "grey-cold December rain"
I am warmed

A poem of memories and also sadness but as ever love rises the spirit above the ugliness of the world ..

i liked...

''Bereft of all joy and hope but for memories and dreams of spring and love...forever young...that shall simply NOT be taken''

Those memories are yours and can be taken by no thief or be purchased by kings or rulers...

Thank you for this poem...

Goldenrose.

"with the silent thief of time in waiting,"

well, sometimes I wish I could stop time, at least for those moments of joy and hope~~

watching the foot of snow build up down here, Bruce, and trying to decide  if I will let more time be stolen or get out there and shovel~~

"that shall simply NOT be taken"

The feeling of this poem is somber and bleak, until this last line and the emphasis on NOT.  It may seem cold now, but love never leaves the heart and spring always returns.  That's just how it is, for truth and for that I applaud.

KEEPER. Your poems are like fine wine. Bruce. They just keep getting better with that old thief... time.

Bruce,

You paint a desolate picture - and warm it with memories.  I agree with Kate  -  you are a poet.  I miss when you are gone too long because you paint and photograph with words.  I see this poem in black and white.
