She was surprised at how light it was
Having always heard of the excessive heaviness of it
She tested the weight in her hands
but found it wasn't heavy at all

Perhaps she's just stronger than most
Perhaps it's just stubbornness
But the weight of it
was nothing
next to the pain

And if she could carry that
then she could certainly carry this.
After years of toning muscles
never meant to carry such inauspicious burdens
Who could deny her right

Eventually she would tire
because everyone does
But not until there was something more than pride keeping her erect
would she even think of putting it down
If she even could
It's tricky that way...

So she continued on
Rolled shoulders
Stiffened spine
Proud
Stubborn
Bitter...

On she went
And on her back
She carried a grudge

If I don't say it...who will?

Grudges are lame.

I loved this. I know lots and lots o people that hold em, and this is just about the perfect way to describe how it really goes down.

(email me if you get the chance, I have something to ask you.)

I love my dog, and my truck. It's that simple, really.

i liked this, how beautifully descriptive and how true...perhaps we don't notice the weight until we let go of the grudge?...

I, unfortunately, have a brother carrying that same burden against me. I can only hope he comes back around. Even though we fight and argue with each other, I will always love him, and I wonder if people who carry such grudges know that, in most cases, the person they are holding a grudge against misses them, and loves them unconditionally.

Goddess grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Thanks everybody!!!  I come from a long line of grudge carriers.  If it were an Olympic sport - my people could bring home the gold for team U.S.A.!

Rachael - Don't give up hope.  It's my experience that all you can do is continue to love him.  We don't get do-overs, but we get every new day to show love, sincerity and goodwill.  Those are the things that pierce cold hearts!  Grace and peace to you!

Grudges are a heavy burden, sometimes you just don't feel it right away.
Excellent poem on the subject.
